EquiReach is our equine-assisted recreational therapy program designed to support sensory integration, motor coordination, emotional regulation, confidence, and communication through structured horse-human interactions. Sessions include calm, goal-oriented activities with trained professionals and therapy-appropriate horses.
No. Prior horse experience is not required. All activities are tailored to each child’s comfort level and needs, and our team provides guidance at every step to ensure safety and engagement.
A session may include groundwork (brushing, leading, structured tasks), mounted activities at a walk (if appropriate), and guided interactions designed to foster sensory, motor, and emotional progress. The horse’s movement and responses become part of the learning experience.
EquiReach focuses on recreational therapy — meaning sessions use the horse as a partner in structured activities that support therapeutic goals like confidence, sensory regulation, and communication. While we emphasize measurable progress, this is distinct from clinical talk therapy.
Sessions are typically 45–60 minutes. For most families, we recommend 2–3 sessions per week to support consistency and progress, though the final schedule is determined collaboratively based on each child’s needs and goals.
Coverage varies widely by plan and insurer. Some plans may consider equine recreational therapy a covered benefit with an appropriate referral. We can provide documentation and written descriptions to assist with authorization, but coverage is not guaranteed. We recommend confirming benefits with your insurance provider.
Yes — riding at the walk may be included if it aligns with the child’s goals and sensory needs. However, many beneficial activities (like groundwork and communication tasks) do not require riding.
