FAQ

GENERAL PROGRAM INFO

Q: What kind of riders do you work with?
A: We specialize in hunter, jumper, and equitation training for riders committed to growth. Whether you're showing or focused on personal progress, we welcome serious riders—no horse ownership required.

Q: Do I need to own a horse to ride at Sage Creek?
A: No. We're happy to work with riders who are committed to training. If you're a good fit, we can help you find a lease horse within our network.

Q: What does leasing a horse involve?
A: Lessees pay a lease fee to the horse’s owner and are responsible for:

  • Full-service board and training costs

  • Vet, farrier, and dental care

  • Insurance (if required by the owner)
We’ll help match you with the right horse and guide you through the process.

BOARDING & CARE

Q: What kind of care does my horse receive?
A: Horses receive premium daily care including turnout, grooming, blanketing, tack cleaning, and coordinated vet/farrier scheduling. Every detail is managed with attention and professionalism.

Q: Can I board my horse without being in training?
A: No. All boarded horses must be in full training to ensure consistency in care, oversight, and barn culture.

Q: Do I get a locker for my tack and gear?
A: Lockers are available for lease (subject to availability), with priority given to full training and lesson lease clients.

Q: What is included in feeding?
A: We feed three flakes of alfalfa hay daily. Additional hay, grain, and supplements must be provided by the owner unless they opt into our supplemental care program. Supplements must be clearly labeled.

TRAINING & LESSONS

Q: What does full training include?
A: Full training includes five sessions per week, typically structured as three professional rides and two lessons—or vice versa—based on your horse’s needs.

Q: Can I swap rides and lessons?
A: Yes, with trainer approval. Ride/lesson swaps are permitted when they support the training goals of horse and rider.

Q: What happens if lessons are canceled due to weather?
A: In poor weather or unsafe footing, lessons may be replaced with groundwork or horsemanship instruction. No refunds or credits are given for weather-related cancellations.

COMMITMENT & SCHEDULING

Q: What is your lesson scheduling policy?
A: Riders reserve a standing weekly lesson time. One week's notice is required for schedule changes. Makeups are offered within the same calendar month with 24 hours' notice, space permitting.

Q: How do I cancel my program?
A: We require 30 days’ written notice for all cancellations. This helps us manage our waitlist and scheduling effectively.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Q: Who makes training decisions for my horse and program?
A: By joining our program, you trust our experienced trainers to make daily training and care decisions that prioritize your horse’s health and your long-term progress. We welcome communication but expect trainer discretion to be respected.

CODE OF CONDUCT

Q: What kind of environment does Sage Creek strive to maintain?
A: We value a respectful, professional, and supportive barn culture. All clients, guests, and staff are expected to uphold this standard at all times.

Q: Are drugs allowed at Sage Creek?
A: No. We enforce a strict zero-tolerance drug policy. Any individual found using or possessing illegal substances will be removed from the program immediately.

Q: What are my responsibilities as a client?
A: Riders must clean up after themselves and their horses. A $25 cleaning fee will be charged for failure to clean grooming areas or tack. Photo documentation and QuickBooks invoicing will apply. Conflicts should be brought to your trainer directly for resolution.

JOINING OR LEAVING SAGE CREEK

Q: How do I get started?
A: Contact us to schedule a consultation. If it's a mutual fit, we’ll help you get started with either onboarding your horse or securing a lease.

Q: What are your policies around moving barns?
A: If you're planning to move, we require 30 days’ written notice. All account balances must be paid in full prior to departure. Soliciting Sage Creek clients or horses during a transition is not allowed.

PAYMENTS, POLICIES & CONTRACTS

Q: What do I need to sign before riding?
A: All riders must sign liability waivers and program contracts before mounting a horse. No exceptions.

Q: How does payment work?
A: All clients must set up a recurring monthly payment through QuickBooks before beginning lessons. Charges run automatically on the 1st of each month.

Q: Do I have to pay a security deposit?
A: Yes. A deposit equal to one month of board and training is required. It is applied to your final month if 30 days’ written notice is given. If notice is not provided, the deposit is forfeited.

Q: Is there an annual maintenance fee?
A: Yes. A $200 per horse annual Common Area Maintenance Fee supports the repair and upkeep of shared barn equipment and amenities. It is due upon signing and renews annually on your board start date.

Q: What happens if my horse gets injured or is out of work?
A: We continue care and modify training with groundwork, rehab, or horsemanship. Full training and board fees apply unless a long-term change is approved by your trainer.

Q: What happens during a natural disaster or emergency?
A: During Force Majeure events (e.g., wildfire, pandemic), services may be suspended or adjusted. Obligations are paused, and Sage Creek will make every effort to continue essential care.

Q: What are my risks and liabilities as a rider or owner?
A: Riding and horse ownership carry inherent risks. By joining our program, you accept these risks and release Sage Creek Stables and its staff from liability, except in cases of gross negligence.
